Berlin Brothersvalley defeated Carmichaels 2-0 in the first round of the PIAA 1A softball playoffs on June 1. Junior Elena Ritchey excelled on the mound, allowing only two hits while striking out 12 opponents. The Mountaineers scored their first run in the second inning following a misplayed bunt that allowed Elsie Barna to score. An insurance run came in the sixth inning from a timely RBI single by Callie Ritchey. Berlin will face District 10 champion Cambridge Springs next in the tournament, a rematch from last year's quarterfinals.
