Bernardo Silva loses starting role for Portugal at World Cup

Summary

Real Madrid's summer signing Bernardo Silva has seen his role diminish with the Portuguese national team during the ongoing 2026 World Cup. After starting in the opening match against DR Congo, which ended in a 1-1 draw, Silva has been relegated to the bench and did not feature in a key group-stage match against Colombia. His only appearance since was a 28-minute stint against Croatia in the Round of 32. Sources indicate he has fallen behind teammates like Rafael Leao and Joao Felix in coach Roberto Martinez's plans. The challenge now lies in how Real Madrid's manager Jose Mourinho will utilize Silva moving forward.
