Big Cass returns to WWE as a monster heel at Raw

He targeted Je’Von Evans, attacking “The Young O.G.” after Evans defeated Ethan Page. Later, Cass told Jackie Redmond he fought his way back from “rock bottom” after being released from the company eight years ago. He said the attack on Evans wasn’t personal before revealing his motivation moving forward. “I am here to stack bodies,” Cass said, saying Evans was just the first, but surely not the last. Despite returning in the best shape of his career and destroying Evans, Cass’ first address was disappointing because his real-life story is far more compelling than the generic monster-heel line he spewed on Raw. WWE released the 7-foot star in June 2018 following a reported series of behind-the-scenes issues. That September, in an interview with Booker T, he admitted that “I made a lot of mistakes in a very short period of time. I did some things that I shouldn’t have done.” Cass agreed with WWE’s decision to let him go, adding, “It was the right decision to get rid of me at that point in time – not to say I won’t be back – but at that point in time they definitely made the right decision for them. To be honest with you, looking at it, they made the right decision for me.” In 2024, he opened up to Barstool’s Rasslin about his issues with alcohol and his decision to get sober. “I’m definitely on an upswing,” Cass said. “I feel like now I have a second chance. A second chance, not just at wrestling, but a second chance at life.” During his time away from WWE, Cass worked his way through the indies and, later, TNA. In 2022, he arrived in AEW, where he also made appearances with its sister promotion, Ring of Honor. Now he’s back in WWE, where instead of a story of redemption or a quest to win a world title, Cass is there to “stack bodies.” While it’s early to judge, his initial tone and cold stare would suggest he’ll tear through the mid-card before WWE serves him up to stars it intends to push.

After weeks of vignettes talking about wasting his first opportunity and rising up to make his return to WWE, Big Cass finally made his way to a live episode of Monday Night Raw this evening (Aug. 3, 2026) in Des Moines, Iowa. It was played up to be a redemption story, which you would think would mean he would be back as a babyface. Nope! Despite the earlier messaging, he came back as a bad guy, springing a sneak attack on Je’Von Evans just after he defeated Ethan Page in a singles match in the first hour of the show. Commentary opened wondered why he would go this route, considering he actually is trying to earn some redemption. Again, we must point out that, at least for now, he has not been joined by his old running buddy, Enzo Amore.
