Bill Guerin discusses contract extension status for Quinn Hughes

Minnesota Wild General Manager Bill Guerin stated Monday at the Minnesota State Fair that negotiations regarding a contract extension for defenseman Quinn Hughes remain ongoing. Guerin described his relationship with Hughes and his representative as positive, noting that there is no tension despite the complexity of high-profile contract discussions. While the team has held in-person talks with Hughes' camp twice this summer, no agreement has been finalized. Guerin emphasized that the recent contract signed by Cale Makar in Colorado does not necessarily set a baseline for these specific negotiations, as he views Hughes' personal and professional priorities as unique. Speculation persists regarding whether Hughes might eventually pursue an opportunity to play alongside his brothers, Jack and Luke, who are members of the New Jersey Devils. Guerin declined to comment on the team's long-term certainty regarding Hughes, citing the business nature of professional hockey.
