Billy Edwards Jr. has been named the starting quarterback for the North Carolina Tar Heels for the 2026 season. A transfer from Wisconsin, Edwards was previously sidelined by an injury in 2025 but has experience as he started all of 2024 for Maryland. USA TODAY Sports ranked him 16th among ACC quarterbacks, ahead of only Boston College's Mason McKenzie. His first game as a Tar Heel will be against TCU on August 29, marking a rematch from the previous season's opener.
