Bleacher Report ranks two Oklahoma football teams among best ever

Bleacher Report included two historical Oklahoma Sooners football squads in its recent ranking of the 99 best sports teams of all time. The list evaluates teams from major professional leagues and college programs based on era-specific dominance. Oklahoma’s 1974 team, coached by Barry Switzer, earned the number 86 spot after finishing 11-0 with a high-scoring offense that averaged 43 points per game. The 1956 group, led by Bud Wilkinson, ranked 78th following a 10-0 season that featured an NCAA-record winning streak and six defensive shutouts. The selection process limited entries to one team per franchise within any five-year period and excluded sports such as softball, preventing the inclusion of recent Oklahoma national championship teams. Bleacher Report limited its consideration to NFL, NBA, MLB, WNBA, NHL, and college football and basketball programs.
