Blue Jays designate outfielder Jesus Sanchez for assignment ahead of Orioles series

The Toronto Blue Jays designated outfielder Jesus Sanchez for assignment on Friday ahead of their series opener against the Baltimore Orioles. The club promoted outfielder Rudy Martin Jr. to the Major League roster to fill the vacancy. Sanchez struggled offensively with a.260/.318/.416 slash line and eight home runs across 99 games. His defensive metrics also prompted concern, as he recorded -10 Defensive Runs Saved and -8 Outs Above Average. Toronto acquired Sanchez in a spring training trade with the Houston Astros that sent Joey Loperfido to the Astros. The team currently pursues a postseason berth and looks to move past his uneven performance at the plate and in the field.
