Bobby Carroll becomes Celtic's first European goalscorer in 1962

Bobby Carroll scored Celtic's first ever goal in European competition on September 26, 1962, during a 4-2 loss to Valencia in the Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. Although his first attempt was labeled an own goal by the Spanish press, Carroll maintained it was a legitimate score. This marked a significant personal achievement for Carroll, as he became historically recognized for this accomplishment despite limited playing time at Celtic. He later expressed pride in his small piece of Celtic history, while his career at the club concluded in 1963 with a total of 27 goals in 78 appearances.
