Bonner leads short-handed Mercury to victory over Fire 78-72

DeWanna Bonner scored a season-high 19 points as the Phoenix Mercury defeated the Portland Fire 78-72 on Friday night in Portland. The Mercury, down two starters due to injuries, took control late in the game after a 64-62 lead from a key 3-pointer by Bonner. Phoenix showed strong free-throw shooting, finishing 19 of 22 overall. Sarah Ashlee Barker led the Fire with 15 points but struggled with turnovers, committing 20 throughout the game. The Mercury improves to 4-8, while the Fire falls to 6-6.
