Borussia Dortmund prospect Konstantinos Karetsas leaves Villarreal match with medical concerns

Borussia Dortmund midfielder Konstantinos Karetsas exited his UEFA Champions League debut against Villarreal on a stretcher in the 27th minute. The 18-year-old requested assistance after playing a pass and feeling unwell during the first half of the match. Club trainers treated him for several minutes on the pitch before he was moved to the locker room. Borussia Dortmund confirmed in a statement that the substitution was due to circulation problems and that the player was transported to a hospital for further evaluation. He is reported to be doing as well as can be expected given the situation. Karetsas had recently joined the club this summer and did not participate in full team training the day prior to the contest. He was replaced on the field by Ethan Nwaneri.
