Boston Celtics trade Jaylen Brown to Philadelphia 76ers, miss on VJ Edgecombe

The Boston Celtics traded Jaylen Brown to the Philadelphia 76ers on July 2, 2026, in a surprising move that shook up the Eastern Conference. During trade negotiations, the Celtics requested rookie VJ Edgecombe from the 76ers, who declined to part with him, seeing Edgecombe as a key part of their future. Rather than retaining a player of Brown's caliber, the Celtics settled for Paul George and additional draft picks. Analysts are questioning the Celtics' decision-making following failed trades for other stars, which may have diminished Brown's trade value.
