Bradford City acquired defender Hayden Matthews from Portsmouth on a season-long loan deal. The 22-year-old centre-back, who has earned one cap for Australia, arrives at Mbanq Valley Parade to bolster the club's defensive options. Matthews joined Portsmouth in January 2025 for a reported £1.25 million fee from Sydney FC but has struggled with injuries during his time at Fratton Park. He made 20 appearances for Portsmouth, with his most recent competitive action coming in a 1-1 draw against Birmingham last season. Matthews is the third player to join Bradford City on loan recently, following the arrivals of QPR midfielder Kieran Morgan and Blackburn Rovers defender George Pratt.
