Brandon Aiyuk and 49ers remain in ongoing standoff amid contract issues

Summary

San Francisco 49ers wide receiver Brandon Aiyuk is in a standoff with the organization as of July 28, 2026. Tensions escalated after Aiyuk criticized the team and expressed a desire to leave for the Washington Commanders. General manager John Lynch stated that Aiyuk is on the reserve/left squad list, which has left his future uncertain. Aiyuk has not filed for reinstatement, and the 49ers have no obligation to release him or pay him, effectively putting his career on hold.
