The San Francisco 49ers enter their season opener against the Los Angeles Rams in Australia without receiver Brandon Aiyuk. The team placed Aiyuk on the reserve/left squad list during the summer following a contract dispute. General manager John Lynch stated on August 31 that the status of the situation remains unchanged. Aiyuk did not play last season due to a knee injury and requested a trade to the Washington Commanders earlier in the year. While the 49ers face a depleted receiver corps following the loss of Ricky Pearsall, the team appears unlikely to utilize Aiyuk as he remains under league control but away from the roster. No resolution has been reached between the player and the organization, leaving his future with the team in question.
