The Boston Red Sox optioned pitcher Brayan Bello to Triple-A Worcester after his performance decline this season. This decision follows a troubling outing against Baltimore on June 4, where Bello struggled with command and confidence. Red Sox Chief of Baseball Operations Craig Breslow stated the team aims for Bello to refine his skills away from the major league spotlight. After transitioning to a bullpen role earlier this season, Bello showed promise, recording a 0.71 ERA over 25 innings, contrasting with a 10.35 ERA as a starter. His demotion is intended as a developmental step rather than a setback.
- •Bello signed a six-year, $55 million extension in March 2024.
- •He holds a 10.35 ERA in 35 innings as a starter this season.
- •In relief appearances, Bello has a 0.71 ERA across 25 innings.
- •Craig Breslow emphasized the need for Bello to rediscover his love for the game.
- •Bello's age and tools suggest he can still develop into a strong starter.
