Brazilian football mourns the death of Fluminense director Paulo Angioni

Paulo Angioni, the executive football director at Fluminense and a former supervisor for the Brazil National Team during the 1990 World Cup, died Saturday at age 80. The Brazilian Football Confederation confirmed the executive passed away following a battle with pancreatic cancer. Angioni held a long career in football, working with several major clubs including Palmeiras, Flamengo, Vasco, Bahia, and Corinthians. During his most recent tenure at Fluminense, he contributed to team successes that included the 2023 CONMEBOL Libertadores and 2024 CONMEBOL Recopa titles. CBF president Samir Xaud announced that a minute of silence will be observed at all stadiums across Brazil this weekend to honor his memory. Fluminense released a statement acknowledging his impact on the development of young players and his commitment to the human side of the sport.
