Brent Venables addresses Oklahoma quarterback situation before Texas matchup

Oklahoma head coach Brent Venables discussed the quarterback situation during a media session after practice. He confirmed that John Mateer will remain the starting quarterback for the upcoming game against Texas. Backup quarterbacks Whitt Newbauer and Bowe Bentley have been actively participating in practice, but Venables stated he is uncertain if they will see action in the Cotton Bowl. Mateer, while struggling with turnovers earlier this season, has managed to complete over 75% of his passes recently and ranks ninth in the SEC in passing yards and tied for fourth in passing touchdowns. Oklahoma faces a Texas defense that is allowing only 13.3 points per game this season.
