Brisbane Lions co-captain Harris Andrews balances university studies with AFL commitments

Brisbane Lions co-captain Harris Andrews continues to pursue a Bachelor of Education degree while maintaining his professional football career. During the 2024 finals series, the 29-year-old defender participated in weekly remote university tutorials, even logging in from hotel rooms on the nights leading up to matches. Andrews, a product of the Brisbane Academy who played junior football at Aspley, intends to complete his final practical teaching placement at the conclusion of this season. He noted that managing academic requirements alongside high-performance sports provides necessary perspective on his career. Outside of his studies and football, the two-metre-tall defender frequently works with junior clubs to discuss sports performance and mental health. He is currently working toward qualification as a secondary school health and physical education teacher.
