Brisbane Tigers submit bid for NRL’s 20th team by 2029

The Brisbane Tigers have officially submitted a bid to become the NRL's 20th team, aiming to join the competition in 2029. Previously known as Easts Tigers, the club seeks to establish itself as a cross-town rival to the Brisbane Broncos. This latest bid comes amid increasing interest from other clubs, including a proposal from Toowoomba and the Southern Orcas from Christchurch. Tigers' CEO Mitch Cook expressed confidence in their financial backing and community support, stating they are open to exploring partnerships to enhance their chances. The NRL aims to announce the new franchise by Christmas, with plans for rapid expansion already in motion, including Perth's entry next year and PNG Chiefs in 2028.
