Brock Purdy and Kyle Shanahan rank among top NFL coach-quarterback duos
Summary

Garrett Podell of CBS Sports ranked San Francisco 49ers quarterback Brock Purdy and head coach Kyle Shanahan as the sixth-best duo in the NFL for the 2026 season. The pair has led the team to three playoff appearances, two NFC Championship games, and one Super Bowl since Purdy joined the league four years ago. During the 2025 campaign, Purdy recorded the highest completion rate on third and fourth downs for a quarterback in 35 seasons. However, the duo continues to face durability concerns after Purdy missed eight games last season due to a turf toe injury. Shanahan and Purdy remain in search of their first Lombardi Trophy, a goal complicated by an aging roster core. They currently rank behind several other tandems, including those from the Kansas City Chiefs and Seattle Seahawks.
