The Cleveland Browns limited quarterback Shedeur Sanders' reps during practice on August 8. Initially expected to work with the starting offense alongside Deshaun Watson, Sanders instead shared second-team duties with Dillon Gabriel, who took the lead for the second unit. Browns head coach Todd Monken cited specific personnel evaluations as the reason for the shift. The decision comes as the team nears their first preseason game against the Chicago Bears on August 15, after which they are expected to announce their starting quarterback. The adjustment may signal a potential demotion for Sanders in the competition.
- •Sanders received fewer practice reps than anticipated on August 8.
- •Deshaun Watson handled most starting duties, getting 34 passing opportunities.
- •Dillon Gabriel led the second team at the end of practice.
- •The Browns will decide on their starting quarterback before the preseason opener.
- •Monken's personnel choices suggest a shift in the QB competition.
