Budapest hosts the inaugural World Athletics Ultimate Championships from September 11 to 13

This new track and field event aims to bridge the gap in non-Olympic and non-World Championship years by featuring top-ranked athletes in a three-day competition. The field includes Olympic champions, 2026 Diamond League winners, and top-ranked competitors, with specific wildcards granted to Josh Kerr and Jakob Ingebrigtsen for the 1500m event. Participants will compete for a total prize pool of $10 million, with $150,000 awarded to the winner of each individual event. Format changes include specific entry requirements and a faster-paced structure for qualifying rounds in track events, while all field events will proceed as straight finals.
