- 1:02 AMCageside Seats — Buddy Matthews teases that he’s finally cleared to wrestle again
"Buddy Matthews was injured in the most unfortunate of ways when he jumped off the ropes during his entrance and rolled his ankle. He gutted out a match against Kazuchika Okada at AEW Grand Slam Australia despite nerve and ligament damage. His recovery has been challenging, enough so that he’s been out of action for well over a year now. He did return at a WSW show in Adelaide back in May but he said he wasn’t cleared at that time but promised he would be come October for their next major show. Our main man Sean wondered if that meant he wouldn’t be cleared until then or by then. Buddy may have just given us the answer: View this post on Instagram “The Devil signed the clearance. Hell stamped its approval. No more barriers. Only timing.“ Matthews’ clearance would come during a time that his wife, Rhea Ripley, is also out injured. Hey, you can only have so much time together before going back to work, right? After a year-and-a-half-away, surely Matthews is ready to get back to doing what he does best with AEW.
