Byron Scott files for bankruptcy as civil assault trial is paused

The filing triggers an automatic stay on a pending civil sexual assault trial, which was scheduled to begin in October. Haley Dylan alleges that Scott assaulted her in 1987 while he was a member of the Lakers and she was a 15-year-old student at Campbell Hall School. Scott’s bankruptcy petition lists assets under $50,000 and liabilities between $1 million and $10 million, specifically citing the pending legal claim as the primary debt. Legal counsel for Dylan plans to request that the bankruptcy court lift the automatic stay to allow the lawsuit to proceed in state court. Campbell Hall previously reached a confidential settlement with Dylan regarding the matter.
