Cade Tyson rejoins Minnesota basketball program during ongoing NCAA eligibility appeal

Forward Cade Tyson has rejoined the Minnesota Golden Gophers basketball program while his legal challenge regarding collegiate eligibility proceeds. Tyson, a member of the 2022 recruiting class, sued the NCAA to contest his eligibility status under the newly implemented five-for-five model. Although a federal judge initially granted a preliminary injunction in late July to allow him to compete for a fifth season, the 10th Circuit Court of Appeals issued a temporary stay in late August. This legal action leaves Tyson currently ineligible for game participation despite his return to the facility. Head coach Niko Medved stated the program intends to support the player through the remainder of the court process. Tyson previously served as the team's leading scorer, and his potential return to the active roster remains contingent on the outcome of the pending appeal.
