Cagliari reach agreement for Southampton defender Yukinari Sugawara

Cagliari have secured an agreement to acquire Southampton right-back Yukinari Sugawara on a loan deal. The arrangement includes an option for the Serie A club to purchase the defender for €5.5 million. Sugawara has received permission to travel for medical examinations to finalize the transfer. The 26-year-old Japan international previously spent last season on loan at Werder Bremen, where he made 31 appearances and recorded six assists. His departure from Southampton follows a tenure that included 35 competitive matches for the club. Cagliari is managing an active transfer window, having already secured Yanis Massolin on loan from Inter and moving to sign free agent Roberto Gagliardini.
