Colorado Avalanche defenseman Cale Makar confirmed Monday that he expects to be healthy for the start of training camp in two weeks. The 27-year-old dealt with an upper-body shoulder injury during the 2026 postseason that forced him to miss the first two games of the Western Conference Final against the Vegas Golden Knights. Makar returned for the remainder of the series, though he noted his performance on the ice was diminished. Joe Sakic, the Avalanche president of hockey operations and general manager, attributed the team's playoff exit in part to the absence of their top defenseman. Following the conclusion of the season, Makar signed an eight-year, $163.2 million contract extension with the organization.
