Cameroon eliminates Nigeria as Malawi advances to WAFCON semifinals

Malawi qualified for their first FIFA World Cup after defeating Ghana 2-1 in the WAFCON quarterfinal on August 10, 2026, in Morocco. Trailing early, Malawi equalized quickly and scored the winning goal in the 79th minute. Meanwhile, Cameroon secured a 1-0 victory over defending champion Nigeria, ending Nigeria’s title defense. Cameroon’s Myriam Nyadjou scored the lone goal in the first half, and despite Nigeria's late attempts to equalize, they could not find the back of the net. Both Malawi and Cameroon advance to the semifinals, which will take place on August 12, 2026. All semifinalists have secured spots at the 2027 World Cup in Brazil.
