Canada and Mexico secure Olympic flag football spots at IFAF championships

Canada’s men and Mexico’s women secured the final Olympic qualifying spots at the International Federation of American Football (IFAF) championships held in Düsseldorf, Germany. Canada’s men defeated Mexico 34-26 in a dramatic overtime finish, while Mexico’s women edged Great Britain 20-19 after overcoming a halftime deficit. Italy's men and Canada’s women had already qualified by reaching the gold-medal games, with Canada’s women defeating the USA 27-20 for gold. The IFAF championships marked the first qualifying events for flag football, which will debut at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympics. The final three spots in each tournament will be determined in the Olympic Q-Series competition in 2028.
