Capital Region athletes record strong starts for collegiate programs

University of Minnesota women's soccer player Katie Krohn has begun her fifth-year senior campaign with two goals through six starts. The former Schoharie High School standout, who previously played at the University at Buffalo, helped Minnesota to a 4-0 season-opening win over North Dakota. Across collegiate sports, several other Capital Region natives are contributing to their respective programs. Isaac Sylvain scored a game-winning 2-yard touchdown for SUNY Morrisville in a 33-30 victory over Kean, while Tufts field hockey forward Eleanor Helm secured a game-winning goal in a 4-0 season-opening result against Trinity. Additionally, Springfield women's soccer player Katie McFerran has scored in consecutive matches, and freshman Kendall Sullivan registered a hat trick in her debut for UMass Dartmouth field hockey. Dominican women's volleyball setter Layla Shipley also continues to play a primary role with 98 assists through four games.
