Cardinals manager Oli Marmol ejected following confrontation with umpire Doug Eddings

The St. Louis Cardinals defeated the Colorado Rockies 7-6 at Coors Field on September 4, 2026. During the bottom of the sixth inning, home plate umpire Doug Eddings instructed pitcher Hancel Rincon to adjust his hat, which prompted manager Oli Marmol to leave the dugout. The situation escalated later in the frame during a pitching change, when Marmol argued with Eddings regarding a pitch timer violation assessed to Justin Bruihl and the earlier interaction with Rincon. Eddings subsequently ejected Marmol from the game. Following the contest, Marmol publicly criticized the umpire's conduct as embarrassing and suggested the league should investigate the incident. Cardinals broadcasters Chip Caray and Brad Thompson also questioned the official's authority, arguing that the umpire's focus on the player's hat was outside the scope of his duties.
