Carlos Alcaraz faces Roman Safiullin in US Open first round matchup

Carlos Alcaraz is set to compete in his first singles match since April at the US Open against Roman Safiullin. The draw revealed Alcaraz will open against Safiullin, ranked No. 98 and a Round of 16 qualifier at Wimbledon this summer. Alcaraz, the defending champion and No. 2 seed, has an opportunity to face notable players like Tommy Paul and Novak Djokovic as the tournament progresses. Aryna Sabalenka, the women's No. 1 seed, will also begin her title defense against Camila Osorio, while Coco Gauff and Jessica Pegula face Zeynep Sonmez and Elena-Gabriela Ruse, respectively. The matches will take place at Flushing Meadows, starting next week.
