Carolina Panthers waive cornerback Tyrek Funderburk from injured reserve

The Carolina Panthers released cornerback Tyrek Funderburk from injured reserve on Wednesday. The team originally waived Funderburk with an undisclosed injury during final roster cuts this past weekend. A former undrafted free agent, Funderburk joined the Panthers in January after spending the previous season on the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. He appeared in 13 games for the Tampa Bay Buccaneers as a rookie in 2024, recording 14 tackles and one forced fumble. The 25-year-old defensive back played his final collegiate season at Appalachian State in 2023, where he earned first-team All-Sun Belt honors. His departure follows the team's initial 53-man roster formation.
