Carter Loflin ends lawsuit against NCAA regarding college eligibility

Carter Loflin has voluntarily dismissed his lawsuit against the NCAA, ending his legal pursuit of a fifth year of eligibility with the Georgia golf team. The decision followed the expiration of a deadline for the university to submit its official roster for the current season, which began Monday in Knoxville, Tennessee. Loflin, a 2022 high school graduate, sought additional eligibility after the NCAA implemented a new model that excluded athletes from his graduating class. His attorney, Nik Erramilli, confirmed the dismissal without prejudice after Judge H. Patrick Haggard did not issue a ruling on an emergency request for a temporary restraining order by the Sunday deadline. Although the case is now considered moot regarding his participation with the team, Loflin intends to remain enrolled at the University of Georgia to complete his degree. Other student-athletes pursuing similar eligibility claims are advised to initiate legal proceedings early.
