Carter Mazur remains with Red Wings under new two-year contract

Forward Carter Mazur signed a two-year, $1.75 million contract with the Detroit Red Wings this summer after briefly testing free agency. The 24-year-old Michigan native was not extended a qualifying offer in late June, but the organization re-signed him the following day. Mazur is currently working to secure a consistent spot in the team's bottom-six forward rotation under coach Todd McLellan. His career has been frequently interrupted by injuries, including a season-ending elbow issue during his NHL debut in March 2025 and a lower-body injury last autumn. Despite these setbacks, Mazur demonstrated scoring potential with the AHL’s Grand Rapids Griffins, tallying 16 points in 16 regular-season games and five goals during the AHL playoffs. The Red Wings are evaluating Mazur alongside several other forwards for checking roles as the team attempts to increase its offensive production.
