Casey O'Connor leads Wilton to overtime victory against Branford

Wilton opened its field hockey season with a 2-1 overtime victory against defending CIAC Class M champion Branford on Tuesday. Senior Casey O'Connor secured the win with her second goal of the match off an assist from Clara Fielden. The teams remained locked in a 1-1 tie for much of the contest, as Branford goalie Lily Panuccio recorded 24 saves against 26 shots. O'Connor scored the game's initial goal in the second quarter, followed by a late first-half equalizer from Branford's Savannah Johnson. Wilton previously competed in Class L but has moved down to Class M for the current campaign. Branford, which maintains a young roster including three freshmen starters, continues its pursuit of another state title.
