CBS remains uncertain on Tony Romo return date following OWI arrest

Tony Romo is currently on leave from his role as the lead NFL analyst for CBS following his arrest in Wisconsin on July 23 for operating a vehicle while intoxicated. Romo pleaded no contest to three charges on September 2 and has since publicly accepted responsibility for the incident, citing a dependence on pain medication that led to an over-reliance on alcohol. CBS Sports president David Berson stated the network is assessing the situation and has not set a timetable for Romo to return to the broadcast booth alongside Jim Nantz. In the interim, CBS promoted J.J. Watt to the network’s top broadcast team for the start of the current NFL season. The network has not provided further comment on whether Romo will participate in the broadcast for Super Bowl 62.
