Cedric Maxwell is the only player drafted by Celtics from UNC Charlotte

The Boston Celtics have consistently utilized the NBA draft to build their rosters over the team's history. While players have joined the organization from a wide variety of institutions, only one athlete has been selected by the Celtics directly out of UNC Charlotte. Cedric Maxwell was the lone selection from the school, taken in the first round of the 1977 NBA Draft with the 12th overall pick. The forward spent four seasons at the university before beginning an eight-season tenure with the Celtics organization. During his time in Boston, Maxwell contributed to the team winning two league titles. His selection remains the only instance of a UNC Charlotte player being drafted by the franchise.
