Chad Tracy considers using Garrett Crochet for Red Sox postseason

Boston Red Sox pitcher Garrett Crochet threw a 20-pitch bullpen session on Tuesday as he continues his recovery from a shoulder injury that has sidelined him since April. Interim manager Chad Tracy indicated that while the left-hander will not be built up to serve as a starter this season, the team may use him as an opener or in short-relief roles during the postseason. The organization has not ruled out the possibility of Crochet returning to the major-league roster without a minor-league rehab assignment due to the late timing of his progression. Crochet has not appeared in a game since April 25. If healthy, the former American League Cy Young Award runner-up would provide the Red Sox with additional pitching depth during their playoff run. The team is currently targeting the wild-card series beginning September 29 for his potential return to competition.
