Chargers general manager expects Keaton Mitchell to play in Week 1

Los Angeles Chargers general manager Joe Hortiz stated on Monday that he does not expect running back Keaton Mitchell to begin the regular season on injured reserve. Despite Mitchell missing four consecutive practices due to an undisclosed injury, Hortiz indicated the team opted against placing him on the reserve list, signaling confidence in his availability for the season opener. Mitchell worked with team trainers off to the side during Monday’s session. The 24-year-old running back joined the Chargers this offseason following a three-year stint with the Ravens. He is projected to serve as the secondary back behind Omarion Hampton as the team prepares for the start of the season in less than two weeks. Mitchell has faced various health challenges throughout his professional career, appearing in only 50 percent of his team’s games since entering the league in 2023.
