Chelsea consider signing free agent Georginio Wijnaldum for midfield depth

Chelsea are evaluating a potential move for free agent midfielder Georginio Wijnaldum following the transfer deadline. The club faces a shortage in central midfield after selling Enzo Fernandez to Manchester City for £125 million. A planned replacement, Lamine Camara, did not join the squad after a proposed transfer from AS Monaco collapsed late in the window. Despite the failure to secure Camara, Chelsea proceeded with the Fernandez sale. The club has reportedly contacted Wijnaldum, who is currently available following his departure from Al-Ettifaq. A short-term deal is under consideration to address the lack of personnel in the center of the pitch. Wijnaldum previously played 217 Premier League matches and secured domestic and European honors during his time with Liverpool.
