Chelsea criticizes Enzo Maresca after his Man City appointment

Chelsea has issued a statement blaming former manager Enzo Maresca for their disappointing season following his appointment as Manchester City's new manager. The club expressed feeling let down by Maresca, who resigned in January 2026, citing his desire to succeed Pep Guardiola. Chelsea's season was marred by poor performances, including five consecutive losses, which led to their 10th-place finish. The club reached a confidential settlement with Manchester City regarding compensation for Maresca, who will also pay compensation for breaking his contract. Chelsea has since appointed Xabi Alonso as their new manager, hoping for brighter prospects next season.
