Chelsea Green captures Interim WWE Women's Championship at SummerSlam ladder match

WWE Women’s Champion Rhea Ripley is currently injured and unable to defend her belt. Instead of vacating the title, WWE decided to crown an interim champion today (Aug. 2) at SummerSlam Sunday in a 5-way ladder match. Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Chelsea Green, Lash Legend, and United States Champion Tiffany Stratton all won qualifying matches on SmackDown to earn their way into this match. A 5-way ladder match is expected to include several painful and/or crazy spots. Minnesota home state hero Stratton was in for one of those rough bumps when Legend cracked her back on a ladder from way high up. Stratton had the next great chance to grab the title, but Chelsea Green was there to dump her new friend off the ladder with a Swanton bomb onto the field of women on the outside. The crowd was going crazy with excitement as Chelsea climbed the ladder with all four other women down. However, Jade’s henchwomen Michin and B-Fab stopped her in her tracks. Stratton and Legend climbed another ladder next to them, only to be sent flying by Jade. Flair and Cargill soon came crashing down too. With everyone down once again, that was Chelsea’s cue to rise from the dead and climb the ladder to victory. Listen to that pop!
