Chelsea Green confirms permanent departure from X following online harassment

In an interview released this week, she stated she won’t return to the platform due to the “toxicity and negativity” of fans on it. Green was accused in early July of supporting President Donald Trump’s MAGA movement after she and Tiffany Stratton recreated WNBA star Sophie Cunningham’s popular pointing meme on an episode of SmackDown. (Cunningham, who is white, went viral for pointing at a Black player in a taunting manner, and the moment became part of the discourse about race in women’s basketball. The White House also posted a video online comparing Trump’s point to Cunningham’s.) The talk on X of Green’s point came after she had recently received criticism from some fans for representing WWE at events like the one UFC held at the White House. These mounting negative comments led Green to post a message that clearly stated she’s liberal and not MAGA before she quit X. In an interview on Insight with Chris Van Vliet released on Thursday (September 3), the WWE Women’s Champion said her absence from the social media platform will be permanent. Green spoke about her stance on X after Van Vliet asked if she would ever go back on the platform, and she began by noting she received some prodding from fellow Canadian star Ethan Page. “Ethan texted me and was like—Ethan Page—he was like, ‘Chelsea, don’t be doing this again. If you’re leaving, you’re leaving for good this time. Do not embarrass yourself,’” she said. “I was like, I love that. I needed to hear that, holding me accountable. But I am done. Like, I’m done, unfortunately.” Green expressed some remorse for the unfortunate circumstance, saying that “I love Twitter so much because it’s allowed me to fill my creative cup when I wasn’t necessarily able to at work, but unfortunately it has allowed that toxicity and negativity to take over. “I was finding that I was telling the world that if I believed and fed into the love, that I would have to believe and feed into the hate, and I was. I was starting to feed into that stuff, and I can’t do it. I will not allow the internet to cyberbully me or any of my friends, and I was becoming this online vigilante, and it was just biting me in the ass.“ The women’s champ said she got a laugh out of some of the comments about her voting choices, since she’s Canadian and thus can’t participate in U.S. elections. “I’m not going to allow them to tell me what race my friends are, to bully my family, to say things about my co-workers that are untrue or unfair or whatever. I can’t do it. I cannot do it,” Green continued. “I hate bullying, and I really hate cyberbullying and the narrative that Twitter comes up with and the dog-piling. It’s too much. I love the fandom, but unfortunately, the fandoms — they also turn into bullying.” “Do you feel like it was affecting your mental health?” Van Vliet asked. “Like, you’ re opening up Twitter, and it’s just people saying terrible things about you.” “Yes, and it was affecting relationships at work,“ Green replied. ”They [people online] were trying to say who I didn’t like and who I didn’t get along with. They were trying to say these are the people that are bullies, these are the locker room leaders, and they’re still doing that. “I literally just saw an interview that Lainey Reid did about me, and she’s completely in character as Lainey Reid from Fatal Influence, and they are trying to say that what she’s saying is the truth in real life. Be so for real, people. Touch grass! Realize that we’re living in a soap opera in WWE. When we go home, we are friends. We text. We hang out. We support each other. We share clothes.
