The news comes after WWE teased World Heavyweight Champion Roman Reigns becoming involved in some capacity with AAA, the Lucha Libre promotion acquired by WWE in 2025. On the most recent episode of Raw, AAA General Manager Rey Mysterio approached Reigns for a discussion. On Wednesday, WWE revealed why they spoke when a video was posted to the company’s social media accounts. In the clip, Mysterio announced a tournament will be held featuring Luchadores from both WWE and AAA with the winning earning the opportunity to challenge Reigns for his championship on the September 14th episode of Raw, which will be televised in Mexico City. But if Green has her way, Reigns won’t be the only WWE champion defending gold in Mexico in the near future. While speaking to the Complex Graps podcast, the Canadian star said she had sent a message to WWE officials about defending the belt she just won at SummerSlam in AAA. “Oh, just know, just know I already sent my text message asking to bring this title to AAA. Yeah, last night I did it,” Green said. The comment came after the hosts brought up how her famously physical match against Penta in Lucha Underground continues to be spread around social media. She also said “there’s nothing better than Mexican wrestling” while recalling her time in AAA late last year and into early 2026. During her run in the Mexico-based promotion, she captured the AAA World Mixed Tag Team Championship with Ethan Page after the two Canadians defeated Mr. Iguana and La Hiedra in November 2025. Their title reign ended with a loss to Mr. Iguana and Lola Vice in February 2026. Green had nothing but praise for the Mexican people when speaking about working in AAA. “I will say that the people in Mexico accepted me for all the junk I was saying,” she said on Complex Graps. “They accepted me, and they stood by me from day one. The minute I got to AAA, they were so cool.” What do you think, Cagesiders? Would you like to see Chelsea defend her newly won title in AAA? Let us know in the comments.
