Chelsea Green wins women’s Interim championship at SummerSlam weekend

One of the biggest surprises of SummerSlam weekend was Chelsea Green emerging from the pack and winning the women’s Interim championship in a ladder match that included stars like Charlotte Flair, Jade Cargill, Tiffany Stratton, and Lash Legend. With Rhea Ripley on the shelf after getting knee surgery, it’s possible they’ll drop the “interim” title and she’ll simply be recognized as the women’s champion from here. She deserves it. During this week’s episode of Friday Night SmackDown in Philadelphia, Green was given a hero’s welcome from the live crowd. The fans love her. But what would be next for her? She brought out Tiffany Stratton to continue their budding friendship but Tiffy was clearly feeling something else. Before she could say it, Fatal Influence arrived to put themselves in the mix. They want all the gold for themselves, promising to come for both the women’s and United States titles. Stratton offered up a chance at her belt if they could wrestle for the tag team titles right here and now. So they sent a referee out. Well, the heels emerged victorious, and that means Jayne gets a shot at the U.S. title, as promised. After, the Irresistible Forces showed up, put the boots to the two champs, sent Stratton flying, and made clear Nia Jax wants next. She’s out long enough the company decided to crown an interim champion at SummerSlam by holding a ladder match with five participants. Chelsea Green emerged from the pack as the unlikely winner, to a thunderous ovation from the fine folks at the U.S. Bank Stadium in Minneapolis, Minnesota. She managed to come out of that ladder match unscathed. That was not the case with her first match after the fact on Friday Night SmackDown this week in Philadelphia. That’s the word from Bryan Alvarez, at least, who reports at F4WOnline.com that Green was injured during her tag team match alongside United States Champion Tiffany Stratton against Fatal Influence. Alvarez goes on to say “we don’t know the exact injury at this point but hopefully she won’t be out of action too long.” As of this writing, WWE nor Green has publicly commented on the matter. Here’s to hoping Green avoided anything serious.
