Chelsea shifts transfer strategy to prioritize trading profit

Chelsea moved 39 players out of the club this summer as the team looks to balance its financial books after years of heavy spending. The club outlayed £349m on 11 new signings, including Morgan Rogers, Maxence Lacroix, and Emiliano Martinez, while generating significant income through 17 permanent player sales. Another 22 players were sent out on loan, with four of those deals carrying future obligations or options totaling more than £140m. Despite the high volume of departures, the Chelsea first-team squad remains listed at 30 players. This shift toward balancing transfer fees follows years of aggressive rebuilding that previously led to Uefa financial control violations and a fine. The club has generated over £1bn in total player sales across nine transfer windows since May 2022.
