Chelsea has secured the signing of Pep Chavarria on a five-year deal worth approximately £16.3 million, plus potential add-ons of £1.7 million. Chavarria, 28, previously played in the Spanish lower leagues and joined Rayo Vallecano in 2022, where he made 45 appearances last season. His move to Chelsea follows interest from manager Xabi Alonso, who previously faced Chavarria when he was managing Real Madrid. The deal was complex, initially requiring Chelsea to meet Chavarria's £42.4 million release clause, but negotiations ultimately led to this agreement. Chavarria aims to bolster Chelsea’s left-back position after Marc Cucurella's transfer to Real Madrid in June.
