Matt Suhey, a cornerstone of the Chicago Bears offense during the 1980s, has died at age 68. He passed away in his sleep on Saturday night. Selected by Chicago in the second round of the 1980 NFL Draft, Suhey played his entire 10-year professional career with the team. He was primarily known as the lead blocker for Walter Payton during four consecutive seasons where the Bears led the NFL in rushing. Suhey also made a significant contribution in Super Bowl XX, scoring the team's opening touchdown on an 11-yard run during their 46-10 victory over the New England Patriots. Over his 157-game tenure, he recorded 2,946 rushing yards and 2,113 receiving yards. A former Penn State standout, Suhey is remembered for his longevity and role in establishing the Bears as a league powerhouse.
