Chicago Fire sign Philip Zinckernagel to contract extension through 2028

Chicago Fire FC announced Wednesday that winger Philip Zinckernagel signed a new Designated Player contract extending his tenure with the club through the 2027-2028 season. Since joining the team from Belgian club Club Brugge in 2025, Zinckernagel has recorded 23 goals and 22 assists across 62 appearances. The 31-year-old earned MLS All-Star honors in each of his first two seasons and was named the team MVP in 2025 after becoming the first player in club history to post double-digit goals and assists in a single year. His contributions have helped Chicago return to the Audi MLS Cup Playoffs and maintain a third-place position in the Eastern Conference standings during the 2026 season. Zinckernagel remains part of a core group of Designated Players that includes Robert Lewandowski and Jonathan Bamba as the team pursues a high finish in the conference standings.
